MARS HILL, Maine – Central Aroostook High School softball and baseball made the plays and hit the ball past Greater Houlton Christian Academy at last Friday’s doubleheader.
Panther baseball piled round the bases to force GHCA’s loss in only five innings in both games, 15-5 in the first and 20-1 in the second.
In the opening game, Blake McCarthy hit a triple and a double for two runs while fellow senior Cameron York posted a double and a single. Manny Martinez added two singles and four RBIs. Logan McLaughlin also hit two singles.
In the second game, Logan McCarthy doubled and singled twice with two RBIs while York and Mitch Folsom both hit three singles and two RBIs.
CAHS softball hit five home runs in their double victory over GHCA 11-6 and 24-8. Senior Sarah Long captained the squad with two homers and six RBIs in the two games.
In the opener, Robyn Graham bashed the ball for a home run and one single. Ashley Estabrook and Latisha Neece also posted one homer apiece.
In the final game, Neece swung away for her second homer of the afternoon and added a double and three RBIs to her stats. Rachel Donovan hit two singles with two RBIs.
Central Aroostook scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to expand their one point lead and leave the field with a Class D baseball victory over Washburn last Wednesday, 12-2.
Panther Martinez slammed a homer in the final inning, and McLaughlin hit a double, two singles and two RBIs for CAHS. Senior York added two doubles and one RBI. L. McCarthy notched three singles and one RBI.
Justin Howe led the Beaver offense with a home run for two runs, and Sebastian Viola hit a double.
Central Aroostook softball fell to Southern Aroostook’s consistent batting last Wednesday, 25-14. Panther Brooke Smith hit two singles for three runs, and Alex Dame tallied two singles and two RBIs.
Southern Aroostook’s pitcher Dakota Sleeper allowed only two hits from Central Aroostook on May 13 to take the baseball victory 6-1. Panthers Folsom and L. McCarthy hit a single each for CAHS.
Washburn softball played to the winning end of a high-scoring game against Central Aroostook on May 13, 24-18.
Beaver Dakota Koch’s bat found the ball for four singles to help in four runs while Amanda Libbey hit four singles and added two RBIs. Hillary Jackson swung for a double and had three RBIs for Washburn.
Panther Estabrook hit two singles and one triple with five RBIs, and Brittni Mosher posted a single and four RBIs.
Tigers upset Eagles
Sprinting round the bases six times in the sixth inning, Fort Fairfield baseball defeated Limestone 9-2 in Saturday’s Class D game. The number-five Tigers showed they should move up the Heal Point standings with the upset victory over the number-three Eagles.
Josh Churchill singled for two runs in the key inning, and Ryan Noyes and Beau Everett both singled twice for FFHS.
Fort Fairfield softball’s six-run effort in the final inning wasn’t enough to break Limestone’s undefeated streak last Saturday at the Eagle field. Limestone posted the 20-16 victory.
Fort Fairfield’s Maryl Shaw and Emily Weissman led the Tigers with three singles and three RBIs each. Teammate Sarah Hebert added two singles and one RBI.
Wisdom baseball put three runners across home plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a slim win over Washburn last Friday, 7-6.
Beaver Sebastian Viola led Washburn with two singles and a double.
Southern Aroostook softball overwhelmed Fort Fairfield’s defense in last Friday’s Class D softball match, 25-10. Shannon Towle led the Tigers with three singles to drive in four runs.
Van Buren could only manage one run in the face of Fort Fairfield’s tight defense last Thursday at the Tiger baseball field. Josh Booth and Austin Dufour allowed only three hits combined in the victory. Ian Towle found his pitch for two singles and one double for four runs. Pat Kinsey posted a triple and a double with three RBIs, and Dufour cranked out a triple, single and four RBIs. Cody Closson and Churchill both hit two singles each.
Van Buren batting proved too much for Fort Fairfield in last Thursday’s softball game, 23-17. Sarah Hebert led the Tiger effort with two doubles, one single and three RBIs, and Kelly Lynch hit one triple, one single and two RBIs.
Ashland can do no wrong
Ashland softball moved to 7-0 after defeating Hodgdon 10-1 on Saturday. Pitcher Whitney Flint threw 14 strikeouts allowing only four hits and one run. Suzie Poulin had two singles and three RBIs for the Hornet offense. Flint hit a triple and a single, and Mindy Chasse also tripled for Ashland.
The Ashland Hornets continued their undefeated streak at the Washburn baseball and softball fields last Thursday.
At the baseball diamond, the Hornets kept the Beavers from rounding the plates, 28-0. Tony Baker helped the orange and black cause allowing only two hits from the mound and posting two doubles, two singles and four RBIs. Jeremy Tarr doubled, singled and hit in six runs. Justin Belanger posted three singles and four RBIs.
Travis Conley led the Beavers with a double.
In softball action, the Hornets allowed the Beavers only one scoring inning to take their sixth win, 14-2. Poulin singled four times and drove in four runs while Flint slammed a homer and singled for Ashland.
Rachel Palmer led the Beavers at the plate with a double. Meaghan Saucier posted an RBI single.
Ashland baseball and softball allowed Van Buren no opportunity to blemish their undefeated status during May 13’s Class D event at the Hornet fields.
At the baseball diamond, Ashland kept Van Buren scoreless for the 14-0 victory. Pitchers Tyler Cote and Baker allowed only two hits combined. Carl Nemer and Cote had a triple and one single each from the plate. Lucas Hafford added a triple for three runs while Tarr hit a grand slam.
In softball action, pitcher Flint notched the win on the mound allowing only four hits, walking four and striking out 13. Flint also hit a home run for three runs and a single for two runs. Crystal Cook had a double, single and an RBI for the Hornets. Rylee Graham posted one double and three RBIs.
