Golf Tournament results
The Rotary Club’s Mars Hill Open Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, June 28. Sunday’s planned play was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Winners in the “A” Division were: First Gross – James Levitt of Millinocket (77), Second Gross – Steve Clark of Caribou (78), Third Gross – Dana Worster of Brewer (79) and Fourth Gross- Gary Hughes of Presque Isle (79).
Net winners were: First Net – Don Clark of Old Town (71), Second Net – Rock Boynton of Fort Fairfield (71), Third Net – John Johnson of Bangor (73) and Fourth Net – Jason Woodworth of Blaine (73).
Winners in the “B” Division were: First Gross – Andy Guido of Millinocket (83), Second Gross – Dave Steel of Presque Isle (92), Third Gross – Rodney Mahan of Mars Hill (94) and Fourth Gross- Dean Larrabee of Mars Hill (95). Net winners were: First Net – Harry Orser of Mars Hill (70), Second Net – Roland Sirois of Millinocket (71), Third Net – Alton McQuade of Mars Hill (72) and Fourth Net – Chappy Clark of Blaine (76).
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met at the Aroostook Health Center on Tuesday, July 1, at 6:30 a.m. The special speaker was Lynwood Winslow, president of the Northern Maine Fair, which will run from July 25 – Aug. 2. While there was some damage to some of the fairground buildings due to a recent wind storm, the fair will be up and going on July 25.
Among the offerings this year will be Smokey’s Midway, a tiger act with 11 white tigers, family nights, monster trucks, horse pulling and five slates of harness racing with $120,000 in total purses.
Winslow also spoke about a Capital Fund Campaign that they have started. They have currently received funds and/or pledges totaling $75,000 to build an Agricultural Heritage Building. Ground was broken in June on this 50-ft x 100-ft building, and the framing for the walls has begun. Plans are to have the frame up and covered and the roof on by the end of the year. Next year will see the metal siding put up on both the inside and outside of the building, which will be insulated. The facility will serve as an agricultural museum and educational center, preserving and displaying antique farm equipment.

Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament
The 17th Annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tournament will be held at the Mars Hill Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27. This 18-hole, four-person scramble will have both Ladies’ and Men’s Divisions. Tee-off times are 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. each day.
There are over $6,000 in cash and prizes that will be given away, as well as hole-in-one prizes of a free lease on a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and $10,000 in cash.

ACI/CAHS Reunion
Among the events planned for the ACI/CAHS Reunion are Gospel Concert, wind farm tours, chicken BBQ, sock hop, Variety Show, breakfast, Antique Car Show, parade, wagon rides, motorcycle demonstration, bean supper, Maine Army National Guard Band Concert, dance and Robinson School get-together. Reading Hour
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library is pleased to continue with Co Co’s Reading Hour for children ages third grade and up on Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. This program will run every Thursday at the library.

The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library is continuing with an ongoing Book Sale. Cost for the books is .50 for hard cover and .25 for paperbacks. There are also bags available to fill for $5. Old and new copyrights for adult and children are available. Fiction, nonfiction, westerns, science fiction and romance are among those currently on hand. There are also children’s books for sale, so plan to stop and check things out. Stock up now for your summer reading! Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Bridgewater Sesquicentennial
The Bridgewater Sesquicentennial will be held July 24 – 26. Among the events currently being planned are: presentation of the Boston Post Cane, unveiling of the 1990 time capsule, Fashion Show, Variety Show with Joy Whited, Civil War Camp re-enactment, breakfast, craft and vender fair, parade (10 a.m.), Quilt Show, antique farm machinery display, Antique Car Show, antique tractor pull, horse and tractor wagon rides, supper and dance (combined with ACI/CAHS).

Sesquicentennial parade
The Bridgewater Sesquicentennial Committee will hold a parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, to help celebrate the town’s 150th birthday. The Sesquicentennial Committee and the ACI/CAHS Reunion Committee have coordinated the parades for their respective towns to enable parade entrants to participate in both parades.
The parade in Bridgewater is at 10 a.m. and, unlike parade routes in the past, runs from the south end of town to the north end. Parade entrants can then continue north to Mars Hill for the ACI/CAHS Reunion parade at 1 p.m.
Parade entrants for Bridgewater’s parade are asked to gather at 9 a.m. on Milliken Street in Bridgewater. Craft/Vendor Fair Announced
The Bridgewater Sesquicentennial Committee is planning to hold a Craft and Vendor Fair during Bridgewater’s 150th birthday celebration, and with the ACI/CAHS Reunion planned for the same weekend, the Sesquicentennial Committee anticipates that hundreds of people will attend the fair.
The Craft and Vendor Fair will be held in the parking lot of the Bridgewater Free Baptist Church on Main Street on Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Any crafter or vender interested in participating in the Fair is invited to do so by sending in a registration form together with the $15 fee for each standard 15-ft x 10-ft space. Food venders must submit a certificate of insurance with the registration form.

Quilted items wanted
A display of quilts and other quilted items is being planned as part of Bridgewater’s July 24 – 26 Sesquicentennial celebration.
The event, “Quilts Old & New” will be held on Saturday, July 26, at the Bridgewater Free Baptist Church from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Quilt Show Committee enthusiastically encourages everyone from Bridgewater, Monticello, Blaine and Mars Hill to provide new or vintage quilts, wall hangings, quilted apparel and quilted bags for the show. The Committee plans to create a diverse display that is rich in history, but also includes contemporary quilted items.
A registration form will be provided for each quilt entered. These forms are available at the Bridgewater, Blaine, Monticello and Mars Hill town offices, at the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library and on the Bridgewater Web site.
On Thursday, July 24, persons wishing to enter quilted items in the show may drop them off at Debbie Taylor’s house at 20 Tannery Street in Bridgewater from 12 – 3 p.m. or at the church from 5 – 7 p.m. On Friday, July 25, persons wishing to show quilts may drop them off at the Church from 7 – 10 a.m.

Bridgewater Community Club
The Bridgewater Community Club will hold a fashion show on Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. at the Bridgewater Free Baptist Church in conjunction with Bridgewater’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The show will feature fashions from each decade beginning with the 1850s and ending with current fashions.
The Club will meet every Thursday at 7 p.m. until the July 24 show to work on the event. These work sessions will be held either at the church or at the home of Pat Lenentine at 386 Main Street in Bridgewater.
Anyone who has fashions for the show, or who would like to model or help with the show, is invited to attend the work sessions.
The goals of the Community Club are to promote friendship among women of all ages and to undertake projects that improve the community. Membership dues are $1 per month, and all interested women are invited to attend. For more information, please contact Pat Lenentine at 429-9444.
Bridgewater Creative Crafting
On the first and third Thursdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Community Center in Bridgewater, crafters are encouraged to join together to work on various projects. Bring your own supplies and projects as you share your knowledge of various crafts. Work together or individually with quilting, knitting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting, scrapbooking, etc. Everyone is welcome! BHA
The Bridgewater Historical Association is continuing with their live music on Thursday evenings from 6 – 9 p.m. The musicians are there to have a good time. They play old-time rock and roll, country, standards, originals, etc. So grab your dancing shoes on and come on down to the BHA Hall (formerly the Odd Fellows Hall).
All proceeds from the music events will go toward a new PA system for the hall. The BHA would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all who support their efforts. It is very much appreciated. Dominique wins crown
Congratulations to Kelsey Page Marie Domonique, who received the title of Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Northern Maine 2008 at a pageant held in Caribou on May 31. Kelsey is the 8-year-old daughter of Steve and Kassandra Dominique and resides in Blaine with her parents and brother, Nick. Great work, Kelsey! We are all proud of you!
Special yard sale
There will be a special yard sale on July 10 – 12 at 36 Maple Street in Mars Hill. All proceeds will go to support Living Waters Bible Camp in Danforth. Hours will be 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday. Nothing will be priced – folks who find items that they can use will be asked to make a donation toward the camp. Please mark your calendar to help support this worthy cause.
