The July Fourth holiday weekend marked Squapan Lake’s third annual Fun Fest celebration. Camp owners and their families enjoyed a visit by Forest Ranger Steve Wipperman and Smokey Bear, games for the children including a slip-and-slide, bounce house, and the popular toy hunt in a pile of sawdust.
A Chowder Cook-Off was a new activity introduced for the adults this year. Fellow camp owners sampled chowder entries and voted for their favorite. Taking home the “Taster’s Choice Award” was Ginny Cole, of North Berwick, for her Maine Shrimp Chowder. This year, judges named Larry and Debbie Sawyer of Mapleton winners of the annual camp-decorating contest. They were awarded the traveling moose antler trophy.
The Club hosted its annual public bean-hole-bean supper Saturday afternoon, followed by the boat parade Saturday evening. Participants once again decorated canoes, motorboats, and pontoon boats in a patriotic theme. The Best Overall trophy went to Larry and Debbie Sawyer and the Best Patriotic entry was awarded to Dwight and Ida Burtt. Honorable Mention was given to Aaron and Madelyn Buzza for their decorated canoe.
The weekend concluded with a potluck lunch at the landing and the annual business meeting held at Dave and Phyllis McIntyre’s camp.
The Squapan Outing Club would like to thank the public for its continued support.
