Special to the Star-Herald
Mapleton Daze contributors honored
The Mapleton Daze Committee recently honored two of their contributors to the success of its weekend. Plaques were presented at Mapleton Lunch by Marilyn Carter and Katie Buck.
Bill Karnes, a retired teacher, was honored for his years of conducting the Sunrise Sunday morning service at the gazebo in Mapleton.
Eb Lovely was honored for his endless contributions beginning with the use of his yard at Mapleton Service, for which he had to close his business for the day. His music has entertained the crowds at many parades, the Sunrise church services and the Buck/Dow Memorial Walk.
The committee and the community are forever grateful to these two gentlemen.
2008 Buck Family Reunion
The 2008 Buck family reunion was held Aug. 2 at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club with 109 members and guests present.
Honored guests were: eldest, Neil Buck; youngest, Logan Michael Bochman, born July 20, 2007; furthest traveled, Beth, Josh and Mylo Haugh from Reston, Va.
Katie Buck reported that since 2005, the family had had fifteen marriages, 15 births and no deaths.
President Dana Buck and wife, Penny, conducted the business meeting, assisted by Brian and Pam Buck. New officers elected were: President Leah Buck, Vice President Kara Roberts, Secretary/Treasurer Jennifer Farley. The next reunion will be held in 2011.
A meal of baked beans, salads, hot dogs and hamburgers was catered by Donny Collins. Cake and ice cream were served for dessert.
The auction was a great success. Favorite auctioneer Joel McLaughlin was assisted by Leah Buck, Justin “Vanna” Buck and Susan Blanchard. Hot items included a homemade quilt by Angie McLaughlin, Joel’s wine, Cilla’s coffee brandy, Grampy Clint’s cane, old and new potato baskets, Melissa Arndt’s photography and Joye’s photo of a fawn at Alden Lake.
A silent auction also added to the fun with many interesting items. An apple tree and hydranga bush were brought from Etna by David and Pam Buck, and were taken back down the highway by new owners, Angie of East Cornith and Melissa from the Rockland area.
