Maine counties to hold annual convention

    PRESQUE ISLE – The Maine County Commissioners Association (MCCA) will hold their annual convention Sept. 26-28 at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. The theme for the three-day meeting is “Pride and Ownership in County Government.” The convention is dedicated with gratitude to retiring Cumberland County Commissioner Esther Clenott for her many years of service to the citizens of Maine.     The meeting includes all aspects of county government, with over 150 county employees expected to attend. Friday begins with County Association meetings from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including: Sheriffs, EMA, Deeds, Clerks, Managers and Administrators, Probate, Treasurers, Emergency Communications, the MCCA Risk Pool and MACo (Maine Association of Counties).
    Lunch the first day will feature a roast and celebration for Commissioner Esther Clenott for her years of service. The evening speaker will be Charles Colgin, PH.D., professor of public policy and management at the Muskie School of Public Policy. The evening will also feature annual awards and entertainment.
    Saturday will consist of break-out training sessions for all aspects of county government, based on the theme of pride and ownership, as well as foliage tours and exhibits. The luncheon speakers are Steven Farnham, executive director, Aroostook County Agency on Aging; and Kaye Braaten, NACo (National Association of Counties) County Service Representative. The evening keynote dinner speaker will be Maine Storyteller John McDonald, with additional entertainment to follow.
