To the editor:
Hello, I’m Sophia Willette, a 15-year-old student at Presque Isle High school. My father, Mike Willette, is running for district 5 representative in Presque Isle. I would like you to know a few things about him that make him the best candidate to vote for. I think my dad is the best choice for this spot because of his willingness to help people. I have seen my dad go out of his way to help people in many different situations, even if he didn’t benefit from it. He is a very hardworking husband, father, real estate agent, and all-around loving guy. When my grandmother had a severe stroke he promised her that he would take care of her in her own home. Even though my whole family had to move to make it happen, I was glad that we were able to help my dad keep his promise and make the last years of her life as comfortable as they could be.
My dad loves to make people laugh and when he’s around there is never a dull moment. He is very good with people and would make an amazing representative. And he is really smart. When he was teaching, all my friends that had him as their teacher said he was one of the best teachers they ever had. My dad was also in the army as a combat medic and was in Desert Storm in Iraq. It’s really interesting to hear his stories from that time. I’m really proud that he helped so many people.
I know when I listen to mom and dad talk, some of the things Dad really cares about are things like how people are going to heat their homes and the trouble they may have to go through to do so. Another thing that he really cares deeply about is the lack of good paying jobs in our area. That got me thinking about when I graduate from college. Are there going to be jobs that are going to make me want to stay in Presque Isle.
People who run for political office like to talk about change, but how can we really know if they’re going to take action? We need to be able to trust that people will take action and make change happen, and I believe my dad is just the person to do that. My dad has always talked about running for a political office, but he was just waiting for the right time to run. Now is the time. If you really want change around the Star City, then you know what to do, vote for my dad, Michael J. Willette.
