McNamee skis to first in high school cross country race

    FORT KENT – Fort Fairfield’s Hilary McNamee, newly returned from biathlon competition, proved her international skiing potential in the freestyle cross country skiing event at Lonesome Pine Trails on Tuesday, Dec. 11. McNamee slid past the finish first in the high school girls’ race in 11:54.     Fellow Tiger Rose Mary Williams finished fifth in 13:58. With only two skiers FFHS placed third of the five participating schools.
    Fort Kent claimed first place for team scores with 16 points, followed by Caribou with 36.
    Viking Laura Collins lead her team in sixth (14:28). Lindsey Cote skied through next for Caribou into eighth (15:21). Six more CHS athletes completed the loop for the team score: Madison Outing (10th, 18:54), Lillie Sund (12th, 20:09), Nicole Cyr (13th, 20:50), Nicky Madore (14th, 21:52),  Deavin Gustafson (15th, 23:01) and Karcynn Dorsey (16th, 23:07).
    The Vikings raced to the team win at Tuesday’s event followed by Fort Kent, Madawaska, Fort Fairfield and Central Aroostook. Fort Kent’s Ian Kaleta completed the trail first in 12:14 followed in close second by Viking Jesse Stevens in 12:33.
    Viking skier included Jordan Powers (fifth, 29:01), Finn Bondeson (sixth, 15:30), Taylor Jepson (ninth, 13:25), Jared Sleeper (15th, 28:50), Spencer McElwain (19th, 14:47), Nick James (22nd, 15:24), Ezra Duplissie-Cyr (24th, 16:05), Kevin Strid (25th, 17:00), Matthew Coty (26th, 17:36), Phil Smith (29th, 20:16) and Ethan Stetson (30th, 21:22).
    Fort Fairfield’s athletes included Noah Rush-Mawbry (16th, 13:50), Nathan McLaughlin (18th, 14:27), Patrick Kinsey (21st, 15:06), Ian Towle (23rd, 15:24), Joe Colburn (31st, 21:41) and Shane McGillan (32nd, 25:13).
