The BPW/Maine Futurama Foundation, established by the Maine Federation of Business and Professional Women, offers four scholarships to be awarded to Maine women through the BPW/Maine Foundation scholarships program. Susan Tardie, President of the Fort Kent BPW local, and Ellen Cost, local BPW Scholarship Chair, announced that completed applications must be received by April 20, 2008, to be considered for the 2008-2009 school year.
Each scholarship will provide $1,200 for school expenses.
The scholarships are as follows: the Rachel E. Lemieux Youth Scholarship, given in memory of the late Rachel Lemieux of Augusta and the Arline Andrews Lovejoy Youth Scholarship, given in memory of the late Arline Lovejoy of Wayne and Winthrop, are both awarded to a high school senior girl or recent graduate who will attend college beginning in the fall of 2008.
Application forms are available at the guidance office of area high schools, or from the local BPW scholarship chair.
The Continuing Education Scholarship is awarded to a woman whose post-secondary education is in progress.
An applicant must have completed at least one year of an accredited college or training program and must need to enroll for at least one more year to complete the educational program.
The Career Advancement Scholarship is awarded to a woman thirty years of age or older who is enrolled in an accredited college or training program of study.
Application forms may be obtained from financial aid offices of Maine colleges or from the local BPW scholarship chair.
The Jeanne L. Hammond Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a woman who is dedicated to school and community involvement.
Secondary preference will be given to those women seeking a journalism degree, member of their dependents of the Business and Professional Women or the American Association of University Women of their dependent.
