Tad Gorence, a senior at Caribou High School, recently worked as an intern at Maine Public Service Company.  Because he was the winner of an Electrification Contest sponsored by MPS that took place last April, Gorence received a $1,000 scholarship and a two-week internship at the northern Maine electric utility. While serving the internship in September, Gorence was able to see different aspects of the company and learn how electricity is delivered to the homes of Aroostook County. He shadowed various people in various parts of the company, including the information technology department, accounting, and the line crews. Throughout the internship, Gorence learned how Maine Public Service operates, gained experience in making a professional career portfolio, and completed an FFA proficiency award application. Gorence is shown, from left, with Randi J. Arthurs, MPS VP, accounting, controller and assistant treasurer; Michael I. Williams, Sr. VP, chief financial officer, treasurer and assistant secretary; and Paula J. Sperrey, tax and financial analyst.
