Caribou students successful at State DECA conference

    Congratulations are in order to the following students in the Caribou Marketing/DECA program, for winning first-place trophies at the 42nd State DECA Conference, held at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland on March 4  and 5.

    Caribou High School DECA marketing students earned first place in their respective categories during the recent 2010 State DECA Conference held in Portland.     The Maine DECA Conference was hosted by the Maine Marketing Education Association.  DECA students from marketing education programs across the state competed in competency-based role-plays and written exams. The students studied a variety of different areas such as advertising and display, finance and credit, apparel and accessories, general merchandising, automotive services marketing, hospitality, tourism, and sports and entertainment marketing, food marketing and restaurant management. Each student participated in two role-play situations, which tests the student’s skills in areas of human relations, economic knowledge, buying and pricing, selling, and advertising and display.
    Caribou High School first-place winners include: Chris Nadeau and Trevor Beaulieu, Financial Analysis Team Decision-Making Event; Nicole Madore and Matt Coty, Buying and Merchandising Management Team Decision-Making Event; Cameron Anderson and Jon Ouellette, Sports and Entertainment Team Decision-Making Event; Dan St.Peter, Automotive Services Individual Event Series; Riley Parady, Retail Merchandising Individual Event Series; Danielle Violette, Restaurant Individual Event Series; and Cortney Therrien, Quick Serve Restaurant Individual Event Series. These first-place winners will be attending the International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in late April.  
    Earning second-place trophies winners were: Ted Walker and Ben Wyman – Hospitality Services Team Event; Breanna Randolph and Annelies Walker, Travel and Tourism Team Event; Elizabeth Keaton, Apparel and Accessories Individual Event Series; and Phil Smith, Accounting Individual Event Series.
    Third-place trophy winners included: Elainee Norris and Sarah Peterson, Hospitality Services Team Event; and Garrett Jordan, Quick Serve Restaurant Individual Series Event.  
    Other CHS marketing students participating were Lydia Kieffer, Jessica Zbylut, Michael Boucher, Evan Susee, Stephen St.Peter, Trevor Cyr, Branden Holdsworth and Taylor Nadeau.
