April Vacation Activities
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be holding a variety of events during the April Vacation.
In addition to extended open gym hours, there will also be special events each day. Open gym is every day from 1-3 p.m. for elementary and 3-5 p.m. for junior high and high school kids, with the exception of no open gym on Thursday. Wednesday
-Contest Day, from 9:30-11:30 am, for kids grades 1-6.
-Gym Games, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., for kids grades 1-6. We’ll be playing dodgeball, capture the flag, and more!
Thursday
-Wiffleball Tournament, for grades 4-6. The bus leaves for Caribou at 8:30 a.m. Must preregister, and is limited to the first 8 participants.
-Peanut Carnival, for elementary grades, from 1:30-3 p.m.. Come play a variety of carnival games and stay for the chance to win a bike. Due to peanut allergies, no peanuts are used.
Friday
-Junior Olympics Competition, from 9-11 a.m., for kids ages 8-13. Kids will be participating in soccer, 50 m dash, and standing long jump at PIMS
-Kickball and Flag Football, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., for ages 3-8. Both games will be going on simultaneously, with groups separated by age. Will be held at PIMS.
Mother/Son Dance
Area Moms can help build memories that last a lifetime by getting escorted by their sons to the Community Center on Friday, May 8 from 7-9 p.m. to our annual Mother/Son Dance. Boys in grades K-6 and their dates will enjoy an evening of dancing and refreshments. Door prizes and great music provided by “Hits on the Run” will make the night extra special. Only $6 per couple. Tickets go on sale April 27 at the recreation center.
Pitch, Hit & Run Contest
Local youth can showcase their baseball skills of throwing, hitting and base-running as the Presque Isle Recreation & Parks is again holding a Pitch, Hit and Run contest.
The competition is free and open to all Presque Isle area boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. It will take place Sunday, May 17 at Pine Street School. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the competition starting at 6 p.m.
Local winners will advance to the sectionals at the University of Maine at Orono in June. Top performers at the sectionals will be eligible to advance to the team championships in Boston and winners from there move on to the nationals during the Major League Baseball All-Star weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.
After School Archery Program
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be offering an introductory after school archery program starting May 4.
Grades 3 to 5 will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30 p.m., and grades 6 to 8 will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:30.
The children will be introduced to the basic skills of archery, and they will work their way up through the Junior Olympic skills set. The cost of the six week program, which runs through June 11, is $20. Equipment is provided.

Community Spirit Day
Community Spirit Day will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 8:00 am-12:00 pm. This year’s project is to clean up the public green spaces, including the parks and bike path.

Summer Openings
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is now accepting applications for the summer programs.
Anticipated openings include maintenance, tennis, arts and crafts, softball, adventure, and office aide/crossing guard. Please stop by the center to pick up an application.
Birthday Parties at the Pool and Recreation Center
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is now hosting birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the Recreation Center in addition to hosting parties at the Indoor Pool.
The Recreation Center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m., with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental. Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball, and kickball. Volunteers Needed
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department is looking for students grades 6-12 who are willing to help out with the annual Peanut Carnival.
The event will take place on Thursday, April 23, from 1:30-3 p.m., and is open for children grades 1-5. Any willing to help out should call 764-2545 or email adampirec@maine.rr.com.
LeBlanc’s Family Karate
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department now hosts LeBlanc’s Family Karate Saturday mornings.
Classes are for ages 7 and up, and classes will be run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday.
The classes are designed for beginners and intermediate students. Registration can be taken at any time at the Recreation Center. Please contact Andy at aleblanc5@roadrunner.com with any questions or concerns.
Parent/Toddler Sign Language
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will be hosting a parent/toddler signing playgroup Saturdays from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The group will meet the first Saturday of each month. This group is designed to teach children basic signs as a means of communication at an earlier age. The cost is $2 per child per session.
The group is designed for children up to age 6, but all ages may come and join in the fun.
