Marthe  Pelletier, MS, RD, LD, registered dietician at Cary Medical Center, recently passed the final exam with the American Association of Diabetes Educators, (AADE), for certification as a diabetes educator.

AADE is a multi-disciplinary professional membership organization including nurses, dietitians, pharmacists and others involved in the daily treatment of people with diabetes.
With Pelletier’s certification, Cary now has four certified diabetes educators on staff, including Erica Ouellette, RN, BSN, CDE; Lynn James, RN, CDE and Kathy Burden, RN, CDE.
“With my background as a dietician, I think I will bring another aspect and component to our diabetes program,” Pelletier explained. “For now I’m looking forward to working with and learning from our diabetes education nursing staff, and continuing with program training.”
Cary Medical Center’s diabetes care team provides the Maine Ambulatory Diabetes Education and Follow-up (ADEF) program for patients. This comprehensive diabetes self-management outpatient training program is designed to help patients manage their diabetes with an individualized plan for the patient and support for his/her family members.
In addition to the diabetes self-management training, other services offered through Cary’s diabetes education services include meal planning and carb counting; insulin and insulin pump therapy, support groups, exercise programs, gestational diabetes education, a continuous glucose monitoring system and Cary Camp Adventure, a summer camp for teens with type 1 diabetes.
A 17-year Cary nutritional services employee, Pelletier will now also be providing both inpatient and outpatient diabetes education counseling as part of the Cary diabetes education team.
