Ark Animal Sanctuary

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of March 23, 2022

Steve has had very long and stressful days. Saturday he wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t eat. He had diarrhea and started peeing blood. He was rushed to Veazie for emergency vet care with a temperature of 103.9 degrees. He had x-rays taken and an ultrasound.

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of February 23, 2022

These days, the Ark Animal Sanctuary is home to approximately 53 cats. Out of those 53, about 30 of those cats are feral or used to be feral. We have three AIDS cats, two leukemia cats, two diabetic cats, two cats with three legs, but the remaining cats are all healthy cats with no special needs. They are all family and very much loved and well taken care of.

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of February 16, 2022

This past month we have received so many phone calls for cats needing help. One such cat is Nick, who was living outside in below zero temperatures. He was being fed by a very kind individual who was really worried about him.

Sometimes love is not enough when it comes to animals.
This is a story of Steve — a little shih tzu mix who was surrendered to the Ark because the owner could not afford to get him the vet care he needed. Steve has lost all of his fur and his skin looks like he rolled in mud and it dried.

DC’s Christmas Miracle

About two weeks ago we received a call from our friends at the Central Aroostook Humane Society. They had just taken  in eight cats as an owner surrender and one of them was diabetic  and they wanted to know if we could help. His name was DC.

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of December 22, 2021

One week ago we took in these two kittens and their mom who were considered barn cats and pretty much left to their own devices. With the cold weather temperatures and no food mom took her babies to the neighbors who took it upon themselves to get them to a safe place.

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of September 22, 2021

A few weeks ago, we received a phone call from a lady who had just trapped a kitten. When we arrived to get it we noticed that she had an injury to her hind end and to make matters worse she had maggots eating away at her flesh.  The kitten was also feral.

Ark Animal Sanctuary – Week of September 6, 2021

This week, Luther lost his battle with cancer. Luther was a beautiful black cat who was feral. The Ark was his home for nine years. Luther came to us from a feral cat colony here in town. His shelter was an old abandoned school bus and his food source was whatever he could find.
