Senior Center nearing completion

Excitement is building at the temporary site of the new Putnam House, a Center for Seniors at First Baptist Church, as the renovations next door are moving ahead with great speed.

Every Tuesday morning up to 20 people gather for food, fun and fellowship and talk about the progress of the building at 48 Court St. It is anticipated that by mid March the center will be open.

The board has been working with several existing programs in Aroostook County to provide special services to those seniors who will be gathering. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), with local sponsorship by the Aroostook Area on Aging, are partnering with Putnam House to make their services available as well as informing us of other areas where people might be served.

RSVP will start a Matter of Balance class at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at no charge. This class will run for 8 weeks and has been shown to improve strength and balance. There is a limited number to the class so please call Jennifer Sylvester at 532-9361 for enrollment. When the new center is open the class will move there.
