AILEEN D. SMITH, HOULTON – Aileen D. Smith, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Madigan Estates, surrounded by her loving family, following a long illness due to a stroke. She was born in Kirkland, NB, Canada, on April 17, 1928, the daughter of Laura and Leslie Graham.
Aileen was a life-long member of the Houlton United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Woman’s Group, a member of the Top Group, and a member for years of the Friends and Needles Quilt Guild of Houlton. She was active with the quilt club and every family member was blessed with a handmade quilt. Aileen was a home maker and raised six children and enjoyed the farm by helping her husband raise vegetables for the Smith Farm Stand for years. Aileen was a woman of faith, knew her savior, and enjoyed going to church even when she was at the nursing home.
She is also survived by her six children: son, John Smith and his wife, Deb, of Bangor, ME, a daughter, Charlene Rich and her husband, Jimmy, of Bangor, ME, a daughter, Teri-Ann Miller and her husband, Dana, of Ludlow, ME, a son, Stephen Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Wittman, AZ, Kevin Smith and his significant other, Heidi Nelson, of Houlton, and Gregory Smith and his wife, Dorothy, all of Houlton, ME; eight grandchildren, Maegan Smith Kilcollins, Tracey Bradbury, Suzanna Smith, Shanna Smith, Oliney Smith (Buddy), Grace Kemp, April Smith, and Heather Smith; great-grandchildren, Gabby and Faith Smith, Daniel Kennedy, and Emma Rose Atkinson. She also leaves behind a brother, Vaughn Graham and his wife, Carol, of Woodstock, NB, and sisters, Madeline English of Canterbury, NB, and Elizabeth Lloyd and her significant other, Jimmy, of Woodstock, NB. Aileen was predeceased by her parents, and husband, Charles R. Smith, and her sisters, Verna Lyons, Phyllis Rogers, and brothers, Thompson Graham, Donald Graham, Murray Graham, and Arnold Graham.
The family would like to thank Dr. Abouleish, Dr. Sussman, HRH and Madigan Estates staff, as well as Pastor Victor Han for all their care and support through her illness.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Houlton United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Victor Han officiating. Immediately following the service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. After the reception, a committal service will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton.
