Golf tourney to benefit JA program

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Junior Achievement Aroostook is the beneficiary of a charity golf tournament being held at Presque Isle Country Club Thursday, July 19.

Junior Achievement Aroostook works to educate Aroostook County students in the concepts of personal responsibility, business and economics, among other important topics.

“We are proud to say that we have served students from Fort Kent to Hodgdon, performing classes in nearly every school district in Aroostook,” Mark Wilcox, board chair of Junior Achievement Aroostook, said in a press release. “Aroostook County high school student teams have taken the top prizes at the annual Junior Achievement Titan Challenge three of the last four years.

“Annually, over 600 students receive our classes, and we keep growing that number every year,” Wilcox added.

He said the golf event is a fun way to support the provision of classes in the area. Opportunities for giving to this cause include sponsoring the tournament or holes, donating merchandise and entering a team to play.

The Junior Achievement Golf Classic will offer cash prizes for top teams in both men’s and mixed divisions. Three-person teams with a minimum of a 30 team handicap can register for a fee of $150 per team. Individuals may enter for a $50 fee. The tourney is limited to 32 teams so early registration is encouraged.

Golfers must check in by 10:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 11 a.m. A complimentary barbecue lunch will be offered to all participants.
