Elks provide free golf program to youth

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Elks Junior Golf Program, sponsored by Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 and held at the Presque Isle Country Club, celebrated another successful season at its awards banquet held Aug. 26.

According to Barry Madore, the pro of the Presque Isle Country Club and the Elks Chair of the annual Junior Golf Program, 20 youth between the ages of 8 and 14 participated in the program.

Each was provided with the use of new golf equipment as needed, as well as golf instruction and tee times, at no cost, in addition to the opportunity to engage in team play every Sunday from June 3-Aug. 26.

At the awards banquet, which was hosted by the Presque Isle Country Club, each participant in the program received a Presque Isle Elks Junior Golf shirt, as well as awards for their individual golf successes in their play against Madore.

According to Madore, the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 is looking to expand its program next summer to include Portage Hills Country Club in Portage Lake.
