To the editor:
On Nov. 6 we can vote for a new but familiar legislator: Bob Saucier. He served our community wisely and faithfully until 2016. We’re lucky Bob is willing to work for us again.
Trey Stewart does not support the will of the voters. The current administration has been downright obstructive when it comes to the will of the people in regards to bills for education, health care and the environment. Big-ticket items, for sure, and they are what we care about and affect us most.
I asked Trey why he voted against LD650, “An Act to Clarify and Protect Certain Public Service Retirement Benefits.” That negatively impacts me and all retired state employees. He emailed me a lengthy explanation. As I read it, he explained that in these times of economic uncertainty, teachers and other state retirees need to accept the disappointment of restricted COLAs — like we “need to take one for the team.” Mr. Stewart missed the message from the teachers and legislators in West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arizona, Colorado and Washington. Teachers are no longer “taking one for the team.”
Bob has a track record of cooperating with all stakeholders. Our County will be better represented by Bob Saucier. He promoted economic growth by improving high-speed broadband internet access in Maine. Bob sponsored or cosponsored over 100 bills which improved the lives of veterans, farmers, animals, business owners, property owners, teachers, students, pensioners, snowmobilers, tourism operators, health care recipients and many more.
