Aroostook MRI accredited following survey

Aroostook MRI, LLC in Presque Isle has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a highly sophisticated medical imaging procedure that uses a very strong magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and powerful computers to produce detailed images of the body.
Aroostook MRI is a joint venture between The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) and NEHE-MRI, LLC.
Aroostook MRI service with a new fixed-base, state-of-the-art scanner housed and fully integrated in the J. Paul and Blanche Levesque Imaging Center at The Aroostook Medical Center.
Aroostook MRI is one of only two MRI providers in Aroostook County to have received ACR accreditation. New England Health Imaging – Houlton, a joint venture between NEHE-MRI and Houlton Regional Hospital, is also ACR accredited.
The ACR, headquarters in Reston, Virginia, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice.
Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
They assess the qualifications of the personnel, the capability of the facility’s equipment and the quality of the images produced.
The surveyors report their finding to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. Accreditation by the ACR is considered the gold standard of quality in the MRI industry.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
