One lucky music lover to win

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – “Jazz and Jewels,” an evening of performances by the Presque Isle High School Jazz Choir and Band, and the Presque Isle Middle School Jazz Band, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 13 at Slopes Restaurant in the south entrance banquet room.
Proceeds from Jazz and Jewels will benefit the Presque Isle High School Band and Chorus 2008 Music Festival Trip, a field trip that takes place once every four years.
In addition to great music and refreshments, one lucky music lover will win a 14k.white gold 1/2 ct.t.w. Journey Diamond Pendant, donated by Wilder’s Jewelry Store, valued at $850.
“This is the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Marilyn Nadeau, treasurer for the SAD 1 Music Boosters. “Cathy Beaulieu, owner of Wilder’s Jewelry Store, donated a diamond for a similar key sale event a few years back, and a lot of money was raised for a different organization. Since we tap the parents so much, we thought we really needed to get into the business community so they can help us. We appreciate Cathy’s donation.
“One of the keys sold will unlock the case where the diamond is,” she said. “We’re hoping it will be a profitable fund-raiser.”
Keys will be sold for $10 each, and Nadeau said the number of keys sold will depend on the number of people who attend the performance.
“We’re hoping to sell 300 tickets for the event itself,” said Nadeau. “If we sell 300 tickets, we will probably only issue 125 keys. It will depend on the number of tickets we sell. We will not sell more keys than half the number of event tickets sold.”
The evening’s festivities will also include both a live and silent auction. Steve Richard will serve as the auctioneer.
Items up for bid include an Afghani rug, a dinner party for eight, a Weber tailgate grill, a park bench, day passes for the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall, memberships to County Physical Therapy, tickets to a Maine Center for the Arts performance, gift baskets, and a hot air balloon ride at the 2007 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest.
Tickets to Jazz and Jewels are $15 per person or $110 for a table of eight. A key is not included in the admission price. Tickets are available at the main office of Presque Isle High School, at Wilder’s, or by calling Nadeau at 764-3460.
