Rec Center highlights
The Washburn Recreation Department Summer Programs information will be ready around the middle of May. Informational sheets and signup forms will be sent home by students. For further information, contact Marcie at the Rec at 455-4959.
On Wednesday, May 23, there was a special Noah’s Ark Build a Bear Workshop for grades 1 – 4. from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. Approximately 22 children enjoyed making their own bears and they all did a fine job under the leadership of Stacy Thibodeau, of Woodland. Anyone wishing to contact Stacy for this Build a Bear project, call Marcie at 455-4959.
There will not be a summer lunch program at Washburn due to the fact that we did not meet the qualifications set by the state in order to participate in this program. It is hoped that Washburn will be able to qualify next year.
For any further information on Rec Center programs, contact Marcie Barbarula at 455-4959.
Rec Director Marcie Barbarula took several senior citizens on a fun outing to the Agricultural Museum in Littleton. The ladies enjoyed the trip in the Rec van, socializing and enjoying each other’s company.
Those going included Dot Churchill, Audrey Pavlik, Bern Rossignol, Norma Baker, Glenna Ewing, Eunice Carman, Margaret barker, Gwen Bragg and Evelyn Woodman. It was also Audrey’s birthday and she received a card and lots of well wishes.
The group enjoyed the tour of the museum that was a former schoolhouse and remembered some of the items on exhibit from their childhood years. They also noted that some of the items were too old even for this group!
There were many items to look at and enjoy and the tour guides were more than pleasant to the Washburn ladies. Another interesting note is that one of the tour guides, Jay Clark, hails originally from Washburn. The son of Irvine Clark, he lived on the old Lone Pine farm on the Everett Road. Several of the ladies knew him and conversation was enjoyed by all.
After the museum visit, the girls went to the Blue Moose restaurant for lunch. Each ordered their favorite dishes, and then paid for Marcie’s as well. They all are more than appreciative of her efforts on their behalf throughout the year.
