SAD 1 Adult Education holds graduation

SAD 1 Adult Education commencement exercises were held on Thursday, May 17. Students participating included Tammy Michaud, Heather MacArthur, Margaret McLean, Melissa Jackson, Jennifer Clair, Thomas Churchill, Edward Curtis, Ralph Terrell, Dell Brissette, Christopher Hitchcock, Jason Levesque, Destini Hodsdon, Krista Stevens, Daniel Hanks, Alex Hoyt, Seth Marquis and Edward Bellanceau. Absent when the photo was taken was Jessica Lahey.
    Approximately 150 people attended the ceremony. Forty-six students received their adult education diplomas this year. Class Marshal Jason Levesque led 18 participating graduates into the Presque Isle High School auditorium to receive their high school and GED diplomas.
Dr. Gehrig Johnson, superintendent of SAD 1, and Lucy Richard, chairperson of the SAD 1 Board of Directors, welcomed those in attendance. Mr. Jason Parent, director of Development and College Relations at Northern Maine Community College, addressed the graduates. Melissa Jackson gave the invocation and Dell Brissette was class speaker. Beth Michaud sang the national anthem, accompanied by pianist Eva Ireland.
An Outstanding Student Award was presented to Margaret McLean. A Student Recognition Award was presented to Edward Bellanceau. Mr. Joe Lallande of the Presque Isle Rotary Club awarded a $500 scholarship to Melissa Jackson.
Russell Gagnon and Debbie Randall received Teacher of the Year awards. A 20-year teacher service pin was awarded to Maxine Maynard. Rodney Nichols received a 15-year teacher service pin. Bruce Berube received a five-year teacher service pin.
Dr. Gehrig Johnson, and John Graves, adult education director, presented the graduates with their diplomas. Lucy Richard presented the charge to the graduating class.
