Connor Savage of Mapleton recently attended the 2007 Junior National Young Leader’s Conference in Washington, D.C. The 12-year-old son of Julie and Shawn Savage, he was nominated by his teachers at Presque Isle Middle School where he will be entering seventh grade this fall.
Savage has honed his leadership skills at PIMS as a member of the Civil Rights Team, as well as in sports like basketball, baseball and track and field. He has also received awards for academic excellence.
“I learned many things while attending the conference. Not only did I experience the privilege of seeing many of our nation’s amazing memorials, but I also gained important skills on how to be a good leader at my school and in my community,” Savage said.
Savage also thanked his friends and family, as well as business sponsors, for their support and assistance.
During the six-day program, Savage and 249 other outstanding middle school students from across the country, visited relevant sites such as the historic district of Philadelphia, Harper’s Ferry, W.V. and the monuments and historic places of Washington, D.C.
Each year the leadership conference is sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. For more information, go online to www.cylc.org.
