PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Head Start program will start Thursday, Aug. 30 with Friendship Day at the Child and Family Center at Park Street. Children enrolled in Head Start will meet their classmates, their teachers and the bus driver and bus monitor, as well as have a chance to explore the classroom and playground. Head Start children and their parents are invited to spend about an hour at the center between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
ACAP Child and Family Services has received federal funding for Head Start for over 25 years. Head Start is a preschool program for three- and four-year-olds, which provides individualized preschool education.
The curriculum includes the areas of early literacy, math and science, creative arts, social and emotional development initiative, and music and movement. Children attend three and one-half hours per day, four days per week. Bus routes are determined annually.

The Child and Family Center at Park Street serves children from six weeks to 13 years in age and their families with child care and Head Start services. It is located at 44 Park St. in Presque Isle.
