Mapleton Lions 50th Anniversary
This Saturday evening, Oct. 13, the Mapleton Lions will celebrate their 50th Charter Night Anniversary. The club was chartered in September 1957. Over these years, the Mapleton Lions has led the community in the development of programs and services for children and youth, including the building of the Mapleton Swimming Pool, the support of the Aroostook Teen Leadership Program and Project Graduation, and the development of the Mapleton Little League Program. The club helped put smoke detectors in many our senior citizens’ homes and buy many, many eyeglasses for those in need.

To celebrate these accomplishments, the Maine Lions District Governor and past District Governors will be attending the anniversary evening. Special guests will include the two remaining charter members, Jerry Desmond and Wendell Coffin, who have been in the club from its beginning. The Mapleton Lions invite all present and former members with their spouses to attend the evening. The club was sponsored 50 years ago by the Presque Isle Lions Club. Former Presque Isle Lions are also invited to attend this special night.
Those who wish to attend need to contact Lions Terry Sandusky or Dennis Hoffses to let them know that you would like to attend.

In Memory of Bob Hubbard
The Hubbard Family, in collaboration with the Mapleton Methodist Church, is sponsoring a Bean-Hole-Bean and Pork Roast Supper Saturday, Oct. 20 with entertainment from the Aroostook County Bluegrass at 7 p.m. at the church. Please call 768-3390 for your choice of seating, either 4:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person and any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held its monthly meeting Sept. 25. All plans were finalized for the concert/karaoke with Fireman Fred Sunday, Oct. 14 from 2-5 p.m. There will be door prizes (you must be present to win) and a 50/50 raffle. A light lunch, homemade desserts, and cold drinks will be sold. Donations will be accepted. Tell your family and friends to come for an afternoon of fun and help support your local historical society. Hope to see many of you there.
The Society will hold its Board of Director’s meeting Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. before the regular meeting. If you are a board member, please plan to attend.
They would like you to please give them an hour of your time once a month to help keep the building operating. The fund-raisers they have are just paying their expenses and leave them with little else to do their projects. If you have enjoyed voting, going to town meetings, their suppers, having a reasonable hall to rent right in your own town, and other events, please consider helping to keep their organization going for future years.
Dues are $10 per year (working member), $15 (non-working member) or $100 (lifetime membership). Their meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month from February through November. They are now renting the hall through the month of October for showers, reunions, and birthday parties. Please see any member for details.
Officials are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.

Mapleton United Methodist Church
The next United Methodist Church luncheon will be held Friday, Oct. 12 at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon is open to the public and there is no cost. Donations are accepted.
The annual Fall Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the church. Coffee and muffins will be available from 9-10:30 a.m. with a luncheon being served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. There will be crafts, a food sale and Grandma’s Attic.
