MILFORD CTR. – Mary F. Clemans, 77, of Milford Center, died Monday, November 12th, at The Gables following an extended illness.
She was a longtime active member of the Milford Center United Methodist Church, a member of the Emmaus family, and the United Methodist Women. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, knitting, and playing canasta for over 40 years with the Canasta Card Club.
A native of Maine, she was a 1948 graduate of the Cape Elizabeth High School in Portland, ME. Her greatest joys were her family, her world travels and traveling the western parts of the United States. She learned to fly Bob Ryan’s small airplane in and around the Grand Canyon and other places of interest in Arizona. Her travels included driving US Route 1 from the farthest northern part of Maine to Key West, FL.
While her sons-in-laws were serving in the US military around the world, visiting her grandchildren became an adventure that also allowed her to visit places such as Rome, Corsica, and Sardinia. While there, she visited the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican. Mary also had the opportunity to tour 5 times in Trident Submarines with her sons-in-laws on family days. Visiting her grandchildren also took her to Seattle many times through the years. The greatest highlight of her travels came with her 50th wedding anniversary Alaskan cruise with her husband Mark.
Mary was born August 29, 1930 in Houlton, ME to the late Joseph E. and Evelyn Appleby Cullinan. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Joseph; a brother, Christy Cullinan; brother-in-law, Dale Crandall; and special longtime friends, Charlene and Bob Ryan.
She married Mark W. Clemans June 6, 1952, in Mechanicsburg. He survives as do her children, Lida Jane (Glenn) Thompson of Marysville, Larry A. (Mary Jane) Clemans of Marysville, Juanita L. (Edward) Angelbeck of Port Orchard, WA, Denise L. (Jeffrey) Fultz of Milford Center, Evelyn R. Clemans of Milford Center; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann (Archie) Pelky of Millinocket, ME, Jennie Crandall of Abington, MA; and brothers, Peter (Alice) Cullinan of Oakfield, ME, and Roy Cullinan of Oakfield, ME.
Calling hours were Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home where funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ronald Payne officiating. Burial will follow at the Milford Center Cemetery.
