FFA students compete at national conference

Gorence is a member of the Caribou FFA chapter. The chapter was one of more than 40 chapters from across the country attending the conference from October 24 to 27. Among the competitions the students participated in were agricultural sales and nursery and landscape development career development.

    Members of the Caribou FFA Chapter were one of the 45 teams participating in the 2007 national FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event. The competition was held Oct. 24-27, during the 80th National FFA Conventions. With the event sponsor representative, Roger Phelps, of Stihal Inc., are CHS team members, from left; Bradd Gustafson, Jamie Huston, Dana Morrell and Tim O'Bar and alumni supporters Mary Huston and Jeff Svoboda, who coached the students. Absent from the photo was team coach Kim Morrell. During the event, participants were asked to identify plant specimens according to their technical and common names and take a multiple-choice exam. The FFA members also performed hands-on activities ranging from landscape drawing to interpersonal relations.

The competition was help on Oct. 24-27, during the 80th National FFA Conventions. Team members who met with event sponsor representative Kevin Cook, of Monsanto are, from left; Tad Gorrence, Laura Ouellette, Erin Susee and Tyler Theriault and alumni member Dana Morrell, who coaches the students. Competitors in the event were asked to participate in an objective test, as well as on oral sales presentation. Participants complete a series of activities demonstrating their skill at prospecting customers, promoting products, advertising and customer service. Members also make sales presentations as individuals and as members of a team.
