Bigger and better — The new addition to the Grange store on Green Street is nearly completed and it will be a great help to the already crowded quarters.
Power will be put in and machines for grinding and mashing feed will be provided on the ground floor while on the second floor there will be new lines added to the stock of merchandise.
Near miss — A serious fire was fortunately averted on Wednesday evening in the store of John Watson & Co. when an alarm was rung in from Box 32 at 10:55. A waste basket near the buyers desk in the main store caught fire from some cause unknown and burned one side of the desk, breaking a glass light in the partition and charring the wainscoting and floor.
The blaze was extinguished with chemicals and the loss was small.

Museum directors — The Aroostook Historical Museum’s officers and directors met Tuesday evening at the Main Street museum to discuss current problems. The officers present included Palmer Wilson, third vice president; Mrs. Isabelle Hess, president; Mrs. Mary McGillicuddy, secretary and curator; Isa Johnson, second vice president and Margaret Cotton, first vice president.
Promotions — Trooper Ralph E. Hanson of the Maine State Police was promoted to Sergeant this week. A Houlton native, he enlisted with state police in 1951.
Also promoted to the rank of Sergeant was Trooper J. Norman Mullen of Houlton. Mullen enlisted the Maine State Police in 1943 and was first assigned to Troop A in Wells. In 1944, he was transferred to his current post with Troop F.

Resignation — Albert Ellis, superintendent for SAD 15 and School Union 115 for the past five years, submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors during their monthly meeting.
Mr. Ellis advised the board that he will assume the ownership and operation of Bell’s IGA in Patten as of Jan. 1. His wife Louise has also resigned her position as administrator of Katahdin Valley Health Center and will join her husband in the operation.
Sons Mark, 17, Peter, 16, and Johnathan, 12, will also join their parents at the store.

ALL STARS — Twenty-five years ago this week, Coach Joe Feeney of Houlton High School announced that these members of the varsity girls soccer team had been named to All-Star teams. From left, are: Lisa Collett, center fullback named to All Eastern Maine team; Mary Harrigan, goalie, named to All Eastern Maine and All State; Kristi Gallop and Tammy Fredericks, both players on the front line of the Houlton championship team, honorable mention on the All Eastern Maine team.
