Girls’ grades three and four basketball
The Terriers couldn’t hold on to the early 8-4 lead as the Black Bears rallied for the 18-12 victory. Taylor Williams scored 10 of her game high 16 points in the second quarter to spark the comeback. Leslie Mejia popped in the other two Black Bear points. Michaela Dumais and Olivia Hudson each finished with four points to pace the Terriers. Grace Player and Michelle Cawley chipped in with two points apiece. The Irish used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to cruise to the 22-6 win over the Terriers. Grace Braley poured in a game high 12 points to lead the way for the Irish. Malerie Buck chipped in with eight points, and Rachel Maxwell added two points. Michelle Cawley’s four points led the way for the Terriers, and Alisa Brewer popped in two points. Leslie Mejia scored four of her eight points in the first quarter, staking the Black Bears to an 8-2 lead over the Irish they wouldn’t relinquish. The Black Bears got a game high 12 points from Taylor Williams, helping them to gain the 24-14 victory. Alison Bell and Regan Nelson each contributed two points. The Irish were led by the hot hand of Grace Braley, who ended with eight points. The trio of Casey Lovely, Gina El Nesr and Malerie Buck all chipped in with two points apiece.
Boys’ grades three and four basketball
Nick Bartlett made one of two free throws in overtime, giving Michigan the thrilling 19-18 decision over Arizona. Bartlett finished with a game high nine points. Kyle Rider tallied six points, and Brandon McLean rounded out the Michigan attack with four points. Jake Kinney poured in a team high eight points to lead Arizona, while cousin Bradley Kinney finished with six points. Dylan Lovely and Issac Devine contributed two points each.
Duke used an 8-0 run in the third to open up their 10-9 halftime lead en route to the 24-13 win over Arizona. Connor Murchison scorched the nets for a game high 16 points, including all eight points scored in the third quarter, to pace Duke. Bradley Kinney paced Arizona with nine points, and Jake Kinney pitched in with four points.
Syracuse used a balanced scoring attack to fend off an improved North Carolina team, 16-14. Sam Gray led the way with a team high six points, and Grant Bridges added four points.
Oliver Gerrish also popped in four points, all in the pivotal fourth quarter. Joseph Boone rounded out the scoring with two points. Nicolas Shields led the comeback attempt for North Carolina with a game high eight points. Noah Kinney contributed four points.
Michigan put five players in the scoring column on their way to a 22-6 decision against Duke. The trio of Cole Staples, Kyle Rider and Nick Bartlett each finished with six points. Hunter Flynn and Brandon McLean scored two points apiece. Connor Murchison was the high scorer for Duke, ending up with four points. Grant Hemphill rounded out the scoring with two points.
Joseph Boone scored all four of his points in the first quarter to help Syracuse jump out to the early lead against Arizona. Caleb Nadeau’s six points were a game high for Syracuse, followed closely by Patrick Cash with five points. Sam Gray rounded out the Syracuse attack with two points. Arizona rallied in the second half, but couldn’t quite claw all the way back. Dylan Lovely led Arizona with three points. Alex Jordan and Bradley Kinney each chipped in with two points. Syracuse held on for the 17-8 win.
Michigan used a 10-2 second quarter run to jump ahead of North Carolina, then withstood a late rally to preserve the 24-20 decision.
Kyle Rider poured in a game high 12 points to pace Michigan. Nick Bartlett popped in six points, and Brandon McLean ended with four points. Grant Stewart paced North Carolina with eight points.
Noah Kinney scored six second half points to lead the comeback attempt, and Nicolas Shields finished with four points.
Patrick Cash pumped in a season high eight points to help Syracuse gain the 20-6 win over Duke.
Caleb Nadeau also finished with eight points for Syracuse. Duke was paced by three points from Connor Murchison, Grant Hemphill with two points and Hunter Trask with one point.
