SFC Jonathan A. Lowry

Lowry, Jonathan A., 38, December 14, 2007.  Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment to be held in the  spring on Soldiers Hill in Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton. Houlton – Sergeant 1st Class Jonathan A. Lowery, 38, died December 14, 2007, by small arms fire while on foot patrol in Mosul, Iraq. He was born March 10, 1969, the son of Winfield and Frances Lowery of Houlton.
    Jonathan was a 1987 graduate of Houlton High School and attended the University of Maine Presque Isle. His interest in the military began early and when given the opportunity to enlist into the Army his junior year of high school, he did. In 1986, he became one of the "Aroostook Artillerymen" and was assigned to Bravo Battery in Houlton. His love of artillery led him to join active duty. He served 14 of 21 years in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma with the 1st Battalion of the 17th Field Artillery. During his service, he had been an Intelligence Analyst, Howitzer Chief, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant and Gunnery Sergeant. Jonathan had the opportunity to serve on army military bases both in the United States and in Germany. He volunteered for many assignments due to his commitment to the "Colors" and his Comrades in Arms. He was deployed to Iraq in Desert Storm and has had two deployments to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also deployed to Kosovo in 2000 and Guantanamo Bay Cuba in 1995. His most recent duty station was Ft. Hood, Texas with the Armored Howitzer Battery which deployed earlier this year as the 3-3 ACR Task Force. Over his 21 year career, his dedication and service was awarded with more than 45 awards and decorations.
    Jonathan is survived by his two sons, of Cyril, Oklahoma, Sean, 11, Dawson, 8; his father, Winfield of Houlton; brothers, Winfield and his wife Janice of Guilford, Norman and his fiancé Tammy of Mars Hill, North Carolina, Michael and his wife Caroline (Sis), Lawrence and his wife Jennifer; one sister, Michelle King and her husband Clarence all of Houlton; and several aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. Jonathan is also survived by a former wife and mother of his sons, Marci Hart; a special mother-in-law, Kathy Meason and brother-in-law, Mike Meason all of Cyril, Oklahoma. Jonathan was predeceased by his mother; a brother, Joseph and his father-in-law Donny Meason.
    Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Houlton Wesleyan Church. Funeral service with full military honors will be held at the church 1 p.m. Saturday. Spring Interment will take place on Solders Hill in the Evergreen Cemetery.
