FORT KENT – The Warriors almost wrestled another win from the Viking squad in last Wednesday’s meet.

Team points stood tied at 36-36 before the final two matches. Both remaining Caribou wrestlers moved above their weight class as Carlin Dubay maneuvered in the 119-pound division and Brian Vrieze met his opponent in the 125-pound weight class.
Despite the higher weight, Dubay claimed a second period pin to secure the duel in Viking favor, 42-39.
“I have to be mentally prepared,” explained Dubay. “I isolate myself from the team and think about wrestling.”
Dubay hopes his signature Guillotine move will bring him a triple victory at the state level.
“Dubay and Vrieze have been wrestling heavier opponents at meets, so when they drop down to 103 (Dubay) and 112 (Vrieze) they should both be even better,” noted head coach Todd Albert.
The Vikings also beat Madawaska 66-18.
On Saturday, CHS hosted Bucksport, Ellsworth and Old Town to a taste of the maroon mats. Caribou defeated Old Town and Ellsworth and had a close defeat against Bucksport, 45-36. The Viking duel meet record stands at 7-2 after Saturday’s competition.
“We are drilling a lot of moves, and hopefully the team can become efficient at using them in a match,” explained Albert.
One of the three female wrestlers on the team, Danielle Landry, pinned a male opponent on the Fort Kent team. “I have balance and flexibility,” said Landry. “I know the moves and I know how to get out of them.”
According to Albert, all 17 wrestlers have added wins for the team, which bodes well for the remainder of the season.
