FORT KENT – Caribou’s triple-senior threat led the Vikings boys over the Fort Kent Warriors in their second regular season match on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Jarryd Rossignol, Kyle Corrigan and Ben Rosser tallied up scoring to double the Fort Kent final, 64-32.

Rosser added his defensive and offensive talents to the team’s double-wins Down East this weekend. The Caribou boys’ varsity basketball team now has a 4-0 record.
Co-captain Rossignol totaled 13 points while Corrigan and Rosser had 12 each.
The Vikings traveled to Bar Harbor last Friday to test their skills against Mount Desert Island for the first time this season. At the half, MDI had the 25-22 advantage, but Caribou’s seniors fought back for the eventual 59-56 final.
Corrigan nailed two three-pointers to add to his 21 point scoring total. Rosser pitched in with 19 points, 12 scored during the charge in the second. Rossignol had 11 points for the Vikings who move to a perfect 3-0 record.
Without recovery time, the Vikings took to the Ellsworth court and defeated the Eagles, 49-43.
The Eagles tried to exhaust Caribou’s starters, playing an aggressive man-to-man defense that seemed to succeed in holding back the Viking offense for the first half of the game. However, the maroon team came back late as a testament to their endurance.
Rossignol totaled 18 points for CHS while Corrigan had 11 points, including a three-pointer with 3:19 left in regular time as the Vikings’ final word.
“This weekend was a little more of a battle than we’d hoped for,” commented head coach Chris Casavant about the back-to-back road games. However, Casavant felt the boys’ experience showed in their ability to take on two competitive teams who hadn’t played the previous nights. “They responded to the challenge,” said Casavant.
Caribou’s girls also improved their record against Ellsworth in a road game, 47-26. Three-point aim and a high foul line percentage led the Vikings past the Eagles.
Kristen Espling had the team-high 14 points while Amanda Cyr totaled 12, including three from beyond the three point arc.
“We were down 9-5 after the first but never looked back after that,” commented head coach Bill Schofield. “We outscored them 17-5 in the second period.”
The foul line percentage and defense also pleased the coaching staff. “We prided ourselves on our defense,” said Schofield. “We allowed only nine points in the first and third and five in the second and three in the fourth.”
The Viking defense shutdown Mount Desert Island in the girls’ Saturday game at Bar Harbor, 38-30.
Cyr led scoring with 12 points and four for five from the three-point arc. Ali Richards added her own nine points and boxedout for six rebounds. Karyn King had seven rebounds and the team-high six steals.
“MDI held close the whole way but our defense kept them at bay,” commented Schofield.
Tigers prowling forward
The Fort Fairfield and Van Buren boys kept their fans in rapt attention as their match on Tuesday, Dec. 11 went into double overtime. The score matched at 60-60 at the end of the regulation four quarters, then at 64-64 after the first overtime period. However, the Tigers clawed their way to a 76-69 win in the heated game.
Matt Cresenzo finished with 18 points followed in close second by Josh Booth with 17. Doug Sharpe added 12 and Austin Dufour had 10 in the double-digit scoring effort.
“It was absolutely our composure coming down the stretch,” commented head coach Todd Alley. The Tigers shot eight for nine from the free-throw line, leading to their win.
While the Tigers had a hot hand beyond the three-point arc last Friday, they failed to topple Madawaska in a close call, 52-49
Booth, Dufour and Noyes all had double-success shooting outside. Cresenzo led team scoring with 14 points and Dufour added another 10 in the Tigers’ effort.
“It was a good defensive game from both ends,” said Alley, “but they executed and we didn’t.”
The Fort Fairfield and Easton girls’ teams met at Easton last Thursday in Class D basketball competition with Easton hoping to match the boys’ win from the previous week. However, Tigers Maryl Shaw and Kaitlyn McLaughlin both netted 10 points toward the eventual red win, 58-20.
Bear Sydney Trask led her team with nine points.
