Caribou – Burnell L. Gallagher, 88, died December 19, 2007, at Caribou. He was born in Limestone August 27, 1919, the son of the late Norman and Etta (Ames) Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher was a graduate of Caribou High School and served with the US Army 43rd Division 103rd Infantry in the South Pacific where he was awarded the Bronze Star during WW II. He was a member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW and the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion where he held numerous local, district and state offices.
He married Florence (Monson) Gallagher July 3, 1946, and was employed by the US Postal Service in Caribou for many years. Burnell was an active member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the Methodist Men’s Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Florence of Caribou are two sons and daughters-in-law: Jeffrey and Suzanne Gallagher of Rockport and Jon and Karen Gallagher of Rockland; four grandchildren, Michael, Monica, Sarah and Jillian; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gallagher of Wells; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gallagher was predeceased by a daughter, Jane; three brothers; and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held in the spring at a time to be announced.
