HOULTON — Despite Friday night storms and snowy roads on Saturday morning, Moosestompers festivities went pretty much as planned.

SLIDE HAPPY — Caden Fitzpatrick of Littleton is full of smiles as he slides down Derby Hill with a friend during Saturday’s Moosestompers events. Even though the “Moosestompin’ Snowmobiles on Parade” event was cancelled due to inclement weather on Friday night, participants were out in force on Saturday, packing into the Millar Civic Center for hockey games and free ice skating, rallying around for special kid’s games and trudging up Derby Hill for a snowy slide.

LET’S GO — A curious horse checks to see if his passengers are ready for their sleigh ride through Community Park.
“It’s hard to judge how many people attended, but I think everything went pretty well,” said Jim Brown who organizes the winter festival. “There was a lot going on up in Littleton. Linneus had a cross-country ski event, and there were the free movies going on downtown. And the arena, when I went in, was packed.”

SNOWY SEARCH — It was a mad dash through the snowdrifts on Saturday when participants in the Half-Dollar Scramble searched for their prize.
Area facilities, like the arena and different clubs, make an event like Moosestompers possible.
“It’s great to see facilities used like that,” said Brown. “We’re lucky to have some of the facilities we have. It would be pretty difficult to put on these type of events without them.”
Also a traditional part of Moosestompers is the area food drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Pantry. No official tallies were available at presstime, but Brown said he’s heard some good reports.
“We haven’t collected all the food yet,” he said. “But every little bit helps this time of year.”

SWEET — What would a winter event be without some tasty treats? Here, ladies from the First Congregational Church in Houlton — from left, Dale Holden, Mellissa Fuller and Brenda Wright — show off their homemade sweets they sold over Moosestompers weekend. Proceeds from the church sale were earmarked for the Houlton Animal Shelter.
