Aroostook League Alpine championships at Big Rock

    MARS HILL – Fort Kent skied to the 2008 All-Aroostook alpine team championship titles, but individual Presque Isle and Central Aroostook skiers dominated the top three places of the giant slalom and slalom races during Saturday’s all-day competition at Big Rock.

    In the girls’ giant slalom, CAHS athlete Brooke Smith combined her two runs for 1:27.40 and first place. Wildcat Jen Steeves claimed second with 1:29.42, and Central Aroostook’s Paige Findlen rounded out third with 1:34.32.
    Presque Isle won the boys’ giant slalom with Lucas Mathers’ times added to 1:21.23. Central Aroostook’s Caleb Jewett ended in third place at 1:24.77.
    Slalom results showed Steeves in first place for the girls’ race with 1:36.02. Mathers finished the boys’ slalom in second place with 1:23.63, and CAHS skier Ethan Garrison edged into third place with 1:25.98.
    In the girls’ team scores, the Presque Isle squad placed second and Caribou finished third. The Presque Isle boys also placed second followed by Central Aroostook and Caribou.
