Members of the City Council will hold a public hearing on the 2008 municipal $8.5 million spending plan during a regular meeting on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in the council’s chambers.     The council is expected to act on the spending plan after the hearing.
“It’s been a difficult year,” said Steve Buck, city manager, citing the costs of snow removal this year.
The $8.5 million budget will be considered a “dynamic” document as city officials watch whether the federal government will help pay for snow removal this year. Because of the high costs of snow removal, the summer road repair program may be adjusted.
The budget, which shows an increase of $294,682, requires a tax appropriation of $2.7 million, according to the budget proposal. It does not include funding for education, which will be considered at a later time.
The city expects revenues of $5.1 million to fund the budget. In addition, $654,046 will be transferred from the prior years’ surplus.
The tax rate, now set at $24 per $1,000 of valuation, is expected to decrease by . 35, according to Buck.
Copies of the line item budget are available the City Clerk’s office.
