Organizations
The Easton United Methodist Women met at the apartment of Marjorie Corey for a belated meeting on April 9, with five members present. President Eldora Carter opened the meeting with devotions and the word for the month was “Glory.”
She also reported that a large twin-sized quilt has been added to the quilts that are on hand for sale along, with three large ones and nine baby ones. Under Community Service all members recycle, one member helps at Mary and Martha’s Food Kitchen and one member transports a woman to work a few days a week. The group made 21 visitations. A thank-you card was read from the Chase family of Mars Hill; an announcement from Secretary Elaine Bailey, of the Northern Maine Sub-District, about their annual meeting on Wednesday, April 16, at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church in Presque Isle; and a note from Joanne Worthen, of Limestone, announcing that she had been picked as our Unit Shepard for this year, if we should need any help. The group voted to discontinue their post office box and let the mail come to the president, Eldora Carter, at P.O. Box 134, Easton, to save the amount of box rent for the group. It was decided that there would be no spring sale this year due to the few members able to work for and at it. The meeting was closed and the hostess served refreshments. Those attending were: Marie Hewitt, Glenice Craig, Carol Higley, Eldora Carter and the hostess, Marjorie Corey.
The Easton Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club met on Thursday, April 10, with 11 members present. After a potluck dinner the president, Marie Hewitt, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and, as the piano player was absent, there was no singing. The treasurer called the roll with these women present: President Marie Hewitt, Treasurer Lindy Fowler, Secretary Eldora Carter, Vera Cullins, Glenice Craig, Ida Doak, Edith Fuller, Arlene Ladner, JoAnn Johnson, Rena Richardson and Ezalee Smith. There was little to do for a meeting this month but they did discuss what kind of window valances to put up in the recreation room in place of the old drapes. They also brought up the fact that the two remaining old chairs were in bad repair and should be replaced when possible. Speakers for coming meetings were brought to the group’s attention. Hopefully the Allens, Mike and Loris, can come to speak on their trip to South Korea where they visited their son, Jay Winger, around Christmastime. Also suggested were someone to speak on CPR, and to have a pharmacist speak on drugs – both prescription and over the counter – where they come from and how they should be used. The meeting was adjourned and some of the members stayed to play Beano.
Sympathy
Those who knew Harold and Margaret Wolverton’s family are saddened by the news that one of their boys, 59-year-old Tom Wolverton, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Machias on Monday, April 7. Tom grew up in Easton, attending Easton schools and graduating from Easton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. When he returned home he went to work for the Maine State Police and was an officer there for six years. He received the accommodation of Trooper of the Year while he was with them. After the Maine State Police, he went to work for the Department of Health and Human Services where he worked primarily with Child Protective Services. He served with them for 25 years, and recently he was employed at the Machias Savings Bank. Tom was active in town affairs, serving as a selectman for the towns of Machias and Marshfield. He was also a past member of the local Lions Club. He was a golfer, a hunter and a fisherman, but he enjoyed mostly time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie; and his children, Amy Pelletier and family, of Gorham, and Sara Butler and family of Palmyra, Va. He leaves four grandsons, Hunter and Haden Pellitier and Jacob and Zachary Butler; also three brothers, Barry Wolverton and family of Easton, Richard Wolverton and family of Colchester, Conn. and Norman Wolverton and family of Toronto, and one sister, Nancy Tracy, of Easton, and her children. Our sympathy goes out to all of them. He was predeceased by both his parents and his wife’s parents. A memorial service was held on Friday, April 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Mark Nollette officiating. A time of remembrance was held after the service at the Inn at Schoppee Farm. Those wishing to remember Tom may do so to the Machias Food Pantry, care of Helen Vose, P.O. Box 265, Machias, ME 04654.
Our sympathy also goes out to the family of 56-year-old David Wright who passed away on Tuesday, April 8, after a long illness. He had been living with his sister, Ruth Barnes and husband, Philip, in Presque Isle, and died at their home. He was the son of Basil and Alberta Wright and lived most of his life in the Easton-Presque Isle area. He attended the Easton schools. He worked for McCain Foods and for the Bud Ayer Farms in their broccoli operation. David leaves three daughters: Kristi Winans and husband, Barrett, and family, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Heidi Rouse and husband, John, of Presque Isle; and Heather Wright also of Presque Isle; and three grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Winans, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Asiah Wright, of Presque Isle. He also leaves three brothers: George “Sonny” Wright, and family of Elliott Lake, Ontario, Canada; Wiley and family, of Presque Isle; Basil Robert Wright and family, of Orono; and five sisters: Ruth Barnes and family, of Presque Isle; Reta Gustin, and family of Branford, Conn.; Dixie Langley and family, of Crestview, Fla.; Carol Ann Manson and family, of Hancock; and Mary Jane Caron, of Orono. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Albert Wright, who died last year. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 12, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery in Easton later this spring. Those who wish to donate to his memory may do so to the charity of their choice.

She was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center and has since been released to her apartment at Leisure Village .
