PRESQUE ISLE – Social Work students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle took the institution’s green, eco-friendly initiatives to heart when they spent a recent Saturday ‘green cleaning’ at Martha & Mary’s Soup Kitchen.

Green Cleaners – Members of the Student Organization of Social Workers spent a recent Saturday ‘green cleaning’ at Martha & Mary’s Soup Kitchen in Presque Isle, in plenty of time for Earth Day. The group used all-natural cleaning products as part of their community service project.
Eight members of the Student Organization of Social Workers used all-natural cleaning products to sweep and mop floors and clean stoves, blinds, cupboards and a refrigerator at the soup kitchen on March 15. The group took part in a hygiene drive last fall and opted to do a community service project at the soup kitchen for their spring project.
Student Justin Rossner, a junior in the Social Workers program, said students were happy to be cleaning and helping out.
“It was great to know that we were giving to a cause that needed our help,” he said.
And the big reward? Rossner said volunteers were “completely ecstatic” when they saw the work students had done.
