Many people have the opinion that Presque Isle Youth Hockey is for children living in the city of Presque Isle. That statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. The hockey program draws several youth from the surrounding towns. “Every year we attract children from Fort Fairfield, Caribou, Washburn and other towns,” explained Norma Levesque, past registrar of the hockey association. “That’s just the way we like it. The more children involved, the more the organization will grow and provide fun, exercise and life lessons for our kids.”
There are no extra charges for children from outside the Presque Isle area. Every child pays the same registration fee regardless of the town they live in.
“We were under the assumption that the program was only for Presque Isle children,” said Elaine Jellison from Fort Fairfield. “We were delighted to find out that our son Greg could play. He has been in the program for two years and loves it. Our daughter is considering playing next year for the new girls’ team.”
“My two boys have been involved for five years,” said Erin Benson from Caribou. “Carl started when he was eight, and I also enrolled Eric, three at the time, in the once-a-week beginner’s program. We have thoroughly enjoyed it, both the kids and my husband and I. It is a great way to spend the winter with your children.”
Registration for the 2008-09 season gets underway in September, but there is also a two week summer ice program that begins in June. For more information, go to www.ourahaa.com.
