Recuperating
Mildred Kennard had the misfortune of a fall recently while collecting her mail and is now home recuperating from a broken wrist and facial injuries. A friendly card would be much appreciated by her, I’m sure.
Surprise visit
Son Tom made an unexpected visit Sunday morning, arriving in time for breakfast and also to help me with cleaning up my large lawn. All this took a couple of hours and then he was on his way back to Glenburn, taking with him the home-made Anadama bread I had made the day before and my thanks for all his help.

Back from Missouri
Sam Sewall has arrived home from Missouri, and arriving home with him was his daughter and husband, Gail and John Kennett, who stayed a week with Sam before returning home to Scarborough. John did a lot of snow shoveling as the stuff was pretty high everywhere when they got home, and he also did some shoveling for me so I could use all of my driveway. Nice to have such good neighbors.

Special thanks
Pearl Main called and has asked me to thank every one who helped in any way to make her 80th birthday a joyous and memorable occasion. The outpouring of love shown in the beautiful cards, gifts, money and phone calls was overwhelming and very much appreciated. Very special thanks to her family and extended families for a wonderful, well-planned party.

Around home
I have had a lot of red polls this past week and along with the juncos, bluejays and chickadees the bird seed feeders are showing empty by noon time every day. I have to keep checking and then dash out to refill them. The coon empties what is left at the end of the day, which isn’t much, I’m afraid.
I have had a bunch of very tiny birds who are eating whatever they find in the grass now, and don’t know what they are. They’re very small dark little birds, and every evening the deer family arrive — just three of them. All the others that were around when we had snow seem to have given up but probably have found enough now to feed them since the snow has disappeared so rapidly once it got warmer.
I think Dyer Brook has gotten as high as it’s going to be, with no flooding over the road this year. And when driving down to Vacationland Estates for my daily swim, I can see the ice pulling away from the shore of Mattawamkeag Lake. But it will be awhile before the snow in the woods around all the camps will be gone and people able to drive to their camps.
