The spring meeting of the Aroostook Association of the United Church of Christ was held on May 4 at the Whittier Congregational Church in Island Falls. The opening worship was led by Pastor Michael Kasevich, and following this, the business meeting, moderated by Pastor Andrew MacLeod, East Millinocket, was held. At the end of the business meeting a short video was shown of “The 50 Years of the UCC.” and this was followed by a short entertainment to honor Pastor Michael on his coming graduation from the seminary. This was performed by Candy McKellar, assisted by Elinor Savage, Marion Hoar, Bertha Pray and Susan Prescott and was very much enjoyed. The attending clergy were then presented with vases of jonquils and all delegates, friends and clergy then went to the vestry where a delicious supper had been prepared by Don McKellar, Phil and Sue Faulkner, Sharon Grant, and Ted and Candy (Newman) Rupley. Pastor Andrew MacLeod, East Millinocket Congregational Church, will also be graduating from the seminary this month.
Friends of Kent Michaud, who passed away recently in Florida, and who would like to send condolences to Marguerite and family, can send a card to 457 Kingslake Drive, Debary, Florida 32713. I’m sure she will be happy to hear from you.
Have gotten more of my lawn raked but had to work around the pile of snow still on part of it. Seems it just hates to leave me. And I have lots and lots of birds now, of all sizes and colors. Even have the gold finch back and had a robin sitting in the cedar tree the other day. The coon has left the neighborhood as the bird feeders still have seeds in them come morning. And the gray squirrels are still hanging by their tails and feet to get at the sunflower seeds. How that one can scrunch himself into the birdfeeder is beyond me. And the deer families are still showing up around 4 p.m. and usually are here for a long time as they apparently are enjoying chomping on all the nice green grass. The other day all three of them had their nap way down back, getting up about 4:30 and arriving at the area where I put out the goodies for them. Then, back they go to grazing and occasionally nibbling on my blueberry bush.
On May 16, Dr. R. C Newman of Island Falls announced his retirement as a Doctor of Veterinary medicine after serving the southern Aroostook area for 61 years.
A retirement party, organized by family and friends, will be held at the VFW hall on May 25, at 2 p.m. and the public is cordially invited to come and visit with Dr. Newman and family. It will be a covered dish affair and, also anyone who has any special story or any pictures of Dr. Newman relating to his practice are asked to please bring them along when you come to the party.
