A check for $7,000 was presented recently on behalf of all 11 Wal-Mart stores in the company’s Northern District of Maine to provide scholarships for children with disabilities to attend Camp CaPella this summer. The official ceremony was hosted at the Super Wal-Mart in Brewer by Brad Roseberry, store manager. “This is a wonderful gift that will help families all across Northern Maine so that their children with disabilities can have fun at Camp CaPella this summer,” observed Dana Mosher, executive director of Camp CaPella.
“Every Wal-Mart store in the Northern District contributed to this gift, and this is a great message Wal-Mart is sending to our communities,” said Mosher. “Good for them, good for the kids, and we are very, very grateful for the Northern District Wal-Mart stores reaching out to us and especially to our campers.”
“As Camp CaPella reopens this summer, we’re happy to know there will be children there having a great vacation at camp who might not have had this opportunity without the scholarship contributions from the Northern District Wal-Mart stores,” Mosher concluded.
Located on Phillips Lake in Dedham, or Lucerne-in-Maine (12 miles from Bangor, 13 miles from Ellsworth), Camp CaPella (www.campcapella.org) provides quality-of-life experiences for people with disabilities and their families.
Closed for the past two years, Camp CaPella will reopen as a day camp this summer with eight sessions beginning June 23.
After 45 years of operations under United Cerebral Palsy of Maine, Camp CaPella will reopen as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, also pursuing renovation and expansion to year-round lodging and resources.
