LITTLETON — Looking at it now, you’d never know that last fall, the future home of Loony Moose was mostly all ragged roof shingles and tired timbers.

NEW HOME — Loony Moose in Littleton is enjoying its new home in a refurbished 19th century potato house. Owners Dawn and Chris DiGiovanni, pictured above with Lupa, offer an array of items — including those pictured at right: firefly lamps, baskets and handmade aprons — just to name a few. Also as the season allows, the Route 1 business will also offer homegrown produce.
The Route 1 gift shop opened a few weeks ago in its newly restored home – a 19th century potato house at the home of Chris and Dawn DiGiovanni.
“Construction finished up in late September,” explained Dawn. “We set everything up in here and opened about three weeks ago.”
Inside the slanted walls of the old-fashioned potato house, Loony Moose offers an array of Maine-themed items, homemade aprons and grocery bags, homemade soaps and candles, baskets and a variety of gift items.
“We still have another wall that would be open to any local artists looking to display their work,” said Dawn. “And we’d also welcome anyone who would like to sell their Maine-made products.”
As the season progresses, fresh produce will be added to the offerings at Loony Moose — items all raised in the gardens that sprawl around DiGiovanni’s home.
Since the Loony Moose has opened in its new home, the couple said they’ve had a good response from the public.
“It’s been good,” said Dawn. “Some of the local people have said they’re glad we’re still open.”
Loony Moose, located at 1035 U.S. Highway 1, is open every day of the week, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
