A group of Limestone residents are working hard toward seeing an expansion of the Robert A. Frost Library become a reality.        The Capital campaign/focus group is in the midst of raising $300,000 toward the estimated $680,000 needed to fund the project. To date $380,000 has been received through applied grants and memorial donations.  A portion of this amount, $50,000 was the result of a grant awarded through an application process written by the group in December 2007,  from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation. These grant monies were received in March.
Another sizable grant was received from the Davis Family Foundation in Portland. This grant, written in December 2007 was received in January in the amount of $17,500.
In the 1960s the library was looking to expand but was met with problems as the design which had been accepted was not done by a licensed architect.
Presently the library, built in 1941, although neat and organized is in dire need of the 3,400-foot expansion. There is little room for computer use at the site and book aisles are not very wide. Storage at the facility is limited and when book enthusiasts converge at the Robert A. Frost Library, it tends to be a bit crowded.
For a full history of the library and further plans concerning the expansion, see the next edition of the Aroostook Republican and News.
