The 2008 Easton High School Alumni Banquet was held on Thursday, June 5, at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria. President Jill Corey Barnes welcomed the classes of 2008, 1958 and 1983, along with all the other alumni. The blessing was asked by Michael Corey, followed by dinner and a slide show featuring the honored Senior Class, 50th- and 25th-year classes.
This was prepared by Amy Barnes and Melissa Dodge. Mistress of ceremony for the evening was Amy Barnes who entertained the audience with facts and humor about the classes of 1958 and 1983. She also shared the meaning of “alumni” through the eyes of kindergarten students.
After the traditional singing of the schools songs, led by Glennis Cronkite Fuller and Donna Blinn Corey, the secretary’s report was given by Lisa Flewelling Haney. Amy then introduced Georgette Ireland, principal of Easton High School, who in turn introduced and gave a brief history of each senior from the Class of 2008 and their future plans. Each senior was presented a 2008 alumni t-shirt and carnation. Tammey Dixon White then entertained the alumni with a reading, “I Knew You Could.” Each senior was then presented a goody bag containing items that will remind them of their past and help them with their future.
Jill Corey Barnes then announced and presented scholarships. The Steven L. Perry Memorial Scholarship of $300 went to Matt Blodget; the Madeline Gardner Memorial Scholarship for $250 was awarded to Molly White; the Annual Alumni Scholarships of $500 each were presented to: Matt Blodget, Kristen Boxwell and Nick Flewelling.
Laureen Hutchins Beaton lead the roll call of classes. The oldest alumni was Alice Clark Kinney, Class of 1938, celebrating her 70th reunion; she was presented a bouquet of roses. Traveling the farthest was Eileen Ames Tompkins, class of 1958, coming from North Dakota, and John Doak, class of 1953, traveling from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. There was no new or old business.
Jill Corey Barnes reminded the alumni of the upcoming 2010 All-School Reunion and the need of volunteers to make the reunion successful. Anyone interested should contact the school with name and telephone number to be put on the volunteer list.
The banquet closed with the singing of “God Be With You.” The officers for 2008-2009 are: President Jill Corey Barnes, Class of 1976; Vice President Laureen Hutchins Beaton, Class of 1976; Secretary Lisa Flewelling Haney, Class of 1982; and Treasurer Elaine King White, Class of 1978.
