Members of the Woodland community gathered last weekend to hear more information regarding the Reorganization School Unit Plan. Following a chicken stew dinner, Charlie Anderson, of Stockholm, a member of the RSU committee provided a power point presentation regarding the school consolidation paths and what it would mean to the community and its school.

Following a chicken stew dinner, a power point presentation was provided by Stockholm resident Charlie Anderson, who has been involved with the RSU committees. Anderson spoke briefly on each aspect of the consolidation which includes the how, what, when and where this state mandate and the up-coming referendum would take schools and communities, if passed. School Union 122 Superintendent John Hedman was also present, fielding questions from the audience.
The large group in attendance for the public session raised various questions throughout the presentation, with some voicing not only concerns but strong opposition to the plan, encouraging a no vote on the January 27 referendum.
Members of the Woodland Board of Education were present during the evening and when asked by a resident what the board’s stand on the issue was, the community members were informed that the education board had unanimously voted no in regards to participating in the RSU Plan.
Residents in all area communities impacted by the school consolidation issue are encouraged to become informed as to what this RSU involves. Summaries of the plan or copies of the entire plan are readily available at the superintendent’s offices or at local town/city offices. Residents are also reminded they may contact board of education members for more information.
The January 27 referendum vote will take place in each individual community.
