Moosestompers ice fishing derby results

    The fifth annual Moosestompers’ Ice Fishing Derby was a huge success with nearly 200 participants casting their lines at Nickerson, Drews, Bradbury and Cochrane Lakes, as well as Mill Pond. The weather was pleasant which added to the weekend. Participants not only won cash awards for their catch, but took home many door prizes. Dick Stewart and Nancy Krantz, co-owners of the Lake Road Market in New Limerick hosted the event and were excited about the participation.  They are already planning for next year’s derby.
    Dan Soucy won the ice auger and Jimmy Tar won the red deer hunt. The fishing results are as follows; in the adult category; First place, Gabe Goodwin, $100, largest fish, four pounds, ten ounces; Togue, Gabe Goodwin, $75, four pounds, ten ounces; Brown, Keith Foster, $75, two pounds and one ounce; Brookie/Splake, Mitch Hall, $50, one pound and ten ounces; Pickerel, Mark Lawlor, $25, three pounds and five ounces.
    Youth winners were; Largest fish, Nick Chase, $50, five pounds and six ounces; Tougue, Nick Chase, $25, five pounds and six ounces; Brookie/Splake, Nate Mooers, $15, one pound and eleven ounces; Pickerel, Troy Hipsley, $15, two pounds and nine ounces; smallest fish, Mackenzie Hipsley, $10, one ounce.
    The largest fish were caught at Nickerson Lake.
