Aroostook Republicans elect new officers

    The Aroostook County Republican Committee recently met at Governor’s Restaurant in Presque Isle. Members of the Aroostook County Republican Committee representing Republicans from area communities were in attendance to elect the new slate of officers for 2009.

NEW OFFICERS — Aroostook County Republicans selected a new slate of officers, including, from left: State Representative Henry Joy, vice chair, Southern Aroostook; State Senator Roger Sherman, chairman; Gloria Duncan, secretary; State Representative Peter Edgecomb, vice chair, Central Aroostook; State Representative Bernard Ayotte, vice chair, Northern Aroostook; and, not pictured, Ron McArdle, treasurer.
    Republican State Committeeman, Hayes Gahagan, serving as acting chair and moderator of the meeting, said, “The Aroostook County Republican Committee represents traditional conservative Republican principles and values. We encourage all voters to participate in the political process, especially those who would like to join us in rebuilding a majority party based on individual rights, free enterprise and a strong national defense.”
    Gahagan continued, “Everyone in attendance expressed concern that government intervention and control combined with increased government spending and taxation is threatening our economy and our liberty.”
    Elected were: State Sen. Roger Sherman, chairman; State Rep. Bernard Ayotte, vice chair north; State Rep. Peter Edgecomb, vice chair central; State Rep.Henry Joy, vice chair south; Gloria Duncan, secretary; and Ron McArdle, treasurer.
