Northern Maine Board offers officiating clinic for soccer
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials will hold its annual clinic for prospective soccer officials at the New Sweden Elementary School in New Sweden. Bob Stedt of New Sweden will be the clinician.
The first meeting will be held on Monday, March 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The meeting dates for the remainder of the course will be determined by those attending.
Clinics will be held in the Houlton area and the St. John Valley if there is interest shown.
Any person 18 years of age or older who is interested in officiating the game of soccer and becoming involved with the fastest growing sport in Aroostook County is urged to attend.
There will be a $35 fee for the clinic.

Coach of the Year award
Fort Fairfield Lady Tigers coach Larry Gardner, Presque Isle Wildcat coach Tim Prescott and Presque Isle Lady Wildcats coach Jeff Hudson have all been named coach of the year for Class D and Class B basketball respectively.
On March 14, the three coaches will be recognized with plaques at the McDonald’s All-Star games in Bangor at 12 p.m.
Congratulations to these and all of the 2008-2009 Aroostook county basketball coaches.
UMPI to host umpire clinic
The Northern Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires began holding clinics for new members starting on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Interested individuals should meet in the North Classroom in Weiden Hall on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus at 6 p.m. that first night.
Cost of the clinic is $40, which includes the rule book. Other class dates will be March 3, 10, 18, 24, 30, and April 7.
Those passing the board test and mechanics session will be eligible to begin working this spring at the middle school level.

Ten Star all-star basketball camp
Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star all-star summer basketball camp. The camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply.
Past participants include: Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill and Antawn Jamison.
Players from 50 states and 11 foreign countries attended the 2008 camp. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American team.
Camp locations include: Ithaca, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Babson Park, FL; Gainesville, GA; Champaign, IL; Glassboro, NJ; Marietta, OH; Lebanon, TN; Commerce, TX; and Blacksburg, VA.
There is also a summer camp available for boys and girls ages 9-18 of all skill levels.

Acadia FCU Marathon 40km, 20km classic
Come test yourself in a challenging classic marathon and take in the scenic beauty of Aroostook County’s historic Saint John Valley on March 15.
In its second year, the Acadia Federal Credit Union Marathon is an opportunity for skiers of all abilities to experience some of the best skiing Northern Maine has to offer.
This Marathon will be on March 15 and there will be two classic race distances, 40km and 20km, as well as a touring division.
This will provide opportunities for the entire family to participate, and spectators will be able to enjoy the cozy Four Seasons Lodge and trail system.
Don’t ski, no problem. You can bring your snowshoes and there is a sledding hill for kids. Rentals are available as well.
With a new trail built specifically for this event, participants will enjoy the rolling hills, peaceful woods, and open meadows surrounding the town of Madawaska. Skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and a great race make this event a perfect weekend getaway.
