The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met after the last Mass on Sunday, March 1 in the parish center. Betty Ann Childers, president led the meeting. Also in attendance was Fr. Dave Raymond, moderator and Deacon Albert Burleigh.
We had the traditional prayers and salute to the cross with a hymn. Betty Ann informed the group that Bill Roach has returned to town.  He will be at Madigan Estates for rehabilitation. She urged cards and visits. What great news.
Bernette Roach gave the treasurer’s report and Ethel Mersereau gave the secretary’s minutes. Lois Downing read several thank you notes for valentine boxes.
Janet Barker gave the report that 36 valentine boxes were packed and given after the last meeting to shut-ins. She was thanked for the project.
Gail Schools was absent, but it was reported that she delivered eight tables purchased in Bangor by the Council to the parish center. The Council has bought a total of 16 tables.
Margaret Casey, Molly Bailey and Janet Barker will purchase a freezer for the kitchen. They will use their own judgment as to the price and sale.
Cruz-Cruz asked the ladies to supply the desserts for the St. Patrick’s Bazaar March 14. The desserts do not have to be cupcakes; anything in that line will be sufficient. St. Patrick’s signs were distributed to those who would post them.
Also thanked for their help on the Umbrella Care Dinner in February were Margaret Casey and Judy Reid. Fr. Dave was there to help also.
Mary Grant, chairman of the nominating committee announced the following for the new slate of officers: Janet Barker and Mary Grant, co-presidents; Jane Mitchell, vice president; Jane Stile, recording secretary and Bernette Roach, treasurer. Betty Childers will be a program coordinator; Lois Downing will remain as publicity and recording secretary and Janice Harrigan as historian.
Council meetings will continue to be in the parish center for April and May. A collection was taken for the seminarian fund. Bunny Tidd won the door-prize and it was decided that the Council would purchase the Easter flowers for the altar.
Birthdays and anniversaries were acknowledged and the meeting closed with prayers for the sick and shut-ins. Fr. Dave said the blessing for the luncheon.
Following the lunch, members followed Father in the Stations of the Cross in the church. He gave some history of the stations and passed out literature. He also displayed one of 14 stations he acquired and had painted.
The next meeting will be after the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, April 5. There will be a book swap. Please bring a book of any subject, religious or non-religious to swap. There will also be a luncheon. Come and enjoy.
